Adelaide Trips

This is the page for enquiring or reserving a place on our trips to Adelaide, South Australia. These trips take place in January, the Australian Summer!

Introduction
Adelaide is the most cycling friendly city in Australia, so you can enjoy a relaxed cycling experience. It has smooth roads, unique and beautiful scenery, interesting wildlife, so many vineyards, stunning coastal beaches and routes, challenging hills, some flat areas and many other great qualities! When climbing into the Adelaide hills, you have lots of steady 6-8% and then shorter but steeper 8-10% while cycling around the region. We recommend a bottom gear of 34×30 or 34×34.

Location and Hotels
We locate ourselves in the Adelaide CBD (Central Business District) and here there are many good quality Hotels, Apartments and AirBnb. However, feel free to select your own accommodation and just turn up for the bike rides. There will be a schedule released. As a guide for accommodation costs, for the start of January it’s from approx $1500 per week in Quest, $1000 in the Ibis or $1750 in the Hilton. From mid Jan it is $2700 per week in the Hilton. The race weeks are premium rates, other Hotels don’t have such a jump in prices.

  • Hilton Adelaide Hotel
  • Holiday Inn Express
  • Peppers Waymouth
  • Ibis
  • Adelaide Marriott Hotel

When and Where?
The default dates for the next trips are between 1 Jan to 29th Jan. We will be there a few days before to check everything is ok. For maximum flexibility, we normally spend the first week or two in one of the apartments above, these are fully equipped, so washing machine and tumble drier for keeping all your kit clean! When it gets closer to the TDU race dates, we move into the Hilton, as this is where the race is located and all the teams stay there. There is a mini TDF style village setup in Victoria Square, opposite the Hilton. This has an Expo, lots of manufacturers are there, daily events, talks, bike rides, food, drink and large screens to watch the racing each day.

Tour Village

Airport Transfers
The easiest way from the airport is to grab a taxi from the taxi area or book an Uber. It’s a small airport and the taxi rank always seems to have some taxi’s waiting. Journey time is around 25 mins and about $40.

Rental Bikes
There aren’t as many bike shops with rentals, or choices of bikes, compared to say Mallorca, so expect to pay a little bit more for bike rentals. Most riders tend to take their own bike with them. We can discuss this one if required.

Itinerary
We will have 1 or 2 ride groups each day, depending on the route and plan on a very easy day every 3 or 4 days. It can be demanding terrain, if you ride in the hills every day, so you will get tired if you don’t pace yourself appropriately! During the TDU weeks, there is usually a ‘Sportive’ event, covering one of the mens stages, starting 4 or 5 hrs ahead of the peloton. This has always been well organised and great fun!
